Generate Greener Electricity w/Fewer Resources

"HK
Electric has
already begun to work quietly,
in power generation and
operation, to use less resources
to produce cleaner energy. The
Lamma Power Plant's new 'Gas
Combined Cycle Generators' have
been built in recent years.
These new units are operating at
over 58% efficiency, far higher
than the old coal-fired units
that will be replaced, meaning
less fuel is needed to generate
the same amount of electricity,
but cleaner!
In addition to using less fuel
to maintain sufficient power
generation, HK Electric has also
worked hard to reduce
electricity, water and paper
usage during operation over the
past four years, reducing the
amount of electricity, water and
paper used by around 7-23%.
In addition to introducing a new
desalination system at the Power
Plant, which combined with the
existing rainwater harvesting
system, aims to reduce water
consumption per kilowatt of
electricity sold by another 7%
by 2029.
HK Electric will continue to
explore more environmental
protection measures, making the
best use of the Earth's precious
resources, and promote
sustainable world development!"

Balcony Jungle, AI-Animated

Zooming in on my
almost-impenetrable Balcony
Jungle onto a single orchid. An
entire branch has resumed
blooming after several years of
sprouting no blossoms at all.
I'm starting to experiment with
Photo-to-Video AI, morphing the
orchid's colors and adding
animated critters. This stuff is
so much fun, quite easy and free
(so far).

18: Treasure Hunters @ HK Electric

World Environment Day's
treasure hunt!
Coffee cups, massagers, drones,
and about 200 other toys, books,
and other practical items were
up for grabs for HK Electric
staff.
Everone was encouraged to find
new owners for idle "treasures"
and give them a "second life" to
reduce waste.
HEC's Sustainability Management
Committee shared the collection
with staff. There's even a "Pass
It On" online platform, hoping
to promote this environmentally
friendly and sustainable
transaction method, give items a
second life and reduce the
disposal of useful materials.

the amazing wild areas of Hong
Kong?
And do you want to live in a
place where the seas are
protected and unpolluted and the
diverse animals and plants
living on our land and on our
mountains are preserved for our
grandchildren and future
generations?
Please consider taking time to
contribute to the consultation

Plankton Education

"'Civil scientists' usually help
with data collection and simple
analytical work under the
guidance of scientists, such as
collecting environmental
samples, observing biological
behavior, and conducting
biological diversity surveys.
The
#SeaEducationAssociation
has received funding through the
Marine Conservation Enhancement
Grant Scheme set up by
HK Electric, CLP
and 'HK Liquefied Natural Gas
Receiving Station Ltd' hold a
series of plankton education
activities. This project is
significant in promoting citizen
engagement in plankton research
and raising public awareness
about ocean conservation.

The entire project recruited 27
college students as plankton
ambassadors, 27 primary and
secondary schools and close to
800 people from multiple
community groups who
participated in workshops and
field studies.
Students collect samples,
observe plankton through the
microscopes, and witness the
beauty of the ocean first-hand."

Good morning! Jo San! Time for
breakfast.
Big Breakfasts are
available all over YSW, how many
restaurants can you identify?
(And yes, I'm one of those
annoying people taking photos of
my food in restaurants.)

'When Art and Ethics Inspire
Reflection'

Another solo exhibition opening
this Friday in my favourite art
gallery. Highly recommended!
I've
participated in quite a few of
their
joint exhibitions
over the last few years and it
has always been a very inspiring
experience.
If you're an
inspiring artist yourself,
preferably Lamma-based,
contact them about
opportunities.

a thing as butterfly police I'd
probably be arrested."
