See You Soon!

This sign in the YSW ferry pier
in many languages is nice, but
it could use a lot more colour
and better design. Which would
be your favourite?

Lamma's Manneken Pis?
My favourite view on the way to
the Pak Kok ferry pier! I
usually stop for a few seconds
to enjoy this ever-changing
view. Great sunset viewing spot!
But what's the little one doing
there at the water's edge?
Guess, zoom-in or read the
fun comments...

"Dilapidated Dredger
Stranded Off Lamma"

HK Free Press:
"Exclusive: A 54-metre dredger
has been stranded off a rural
Lamma Island beach all year,
with the owners facing
prosecution for failing to
report the incident.
The
50-year-old Sea Diamond, a
dilapidated cutter section
dredger, was partly-submerged
when HKFP visited the vessel off
Ha Mei Wan on March 19. Link in

Gen Z’s Green Innovation Dreams

HK Electric partners with Hong
Kong Science and Technology
Parks Corporation to take Gen Z
students on "Science Park
Exploration Tours".
"HK Electric’s flagship green
education initiative,
Happy Green Campaign,
has partnered for the first time
with Hong Kong Science and
Technology Parks Corporation,
bringing Gen Z students into
Hong Kong’s leading innovation
hub to explore emerging green
solutions and connect with
eco-tech startups.
Under the Campaign’s signature
programme, the
Green Energy Dreams Come True”
competition has brought together
18 teams from local tertiary
institutions and secondary
schools this year.

During the workshop, students
used AI tools to create
promotional materials inspired
by action ideas from HK
Electric’s UNSDG Action Planner.
The Planner introduces the SDGs
through 52 actions across areas
such as environmental
protection, education, health,
gender equality, responsible
consumption and more.
Now in its 10th edition, the
Green Energy Dreams Come True
competition
competition will stage its final
presentation on 11 July at
Science Park. Winning teams will
be invited to join the “Green
Energy Study Tour”
to visit different provinces and
cities in the Chinese Mainland,
gaining insights from State
Grid’s energy infrastructure and
experiencing local cultures."

"When the Wind Stops:
Keeping the Lights On in Hong Kong"

Francis Cheng,
MD of
HK Electric,
has today (1 April 2026) updated
his quarterly column,
The Sweet Potato Page (Vol. 2 - Chinese version only).
The new column, entitled
When the Wind Stops: Keeping the
Lights On in Hong Kong,
shares his observations and
reflections on fluctuations in
international fuel prices and
the arrangements for the
decommissioning of the Lamma
Wind Farm.
Key Excerpts, translated:
"At the slightest sign of
fluctuation in international
fuel prices, our team springs
into action: adjusting
procurement, diversifying
sources, monitoring shipping
schedules, closely tracking
market trends and optimising our
fuel mix.
Since 2019, the fuel
adjustment charge has
been updated monthly, with the
price for the following month
determined by the average actual
fuel cost over the preceding
three months.
However, as the mechanism relies
solely on data from the previous
three months, there is a
'lagging effect'. Should
international fuel prices remain
persistently high, the fuel
adjustment charge will begin to
rise significantly from the
middle of this year.

Twenty years ago, the
Lamma Winds Power Station
rose like a bolt from the blue
on the slopes of Tai Ling Shan
on Lamma Island… Over the years,
it has provided us with
invaluable technical data and
operational experience regarding
wind power generation.
By mid-year, it will complete
its historic mission
amidst the wind.
The decommissioning of the Lamma
Wind Power Station does not
signify Hong Kong’s farewell to
renewable energy, but rather a
reallocation of resources to
where they can best bring light
to Hong Kong. Wind power
leaves us not only with the
sight of spinning blades, but
also with the principles of
'safety first, scientific
decision-making, and pragmatic
carbon reduction'."

AN APRIL FOOL’S SURVIVAL REPORT

affectionate roasting of Lamma
